Eye of Cleopatra Pragmatic Play
The online slots developer Pragmatic Play was created by many former staff of Topgame, a US-focused online gambling content creator that competed with Rival and Real Time Gaming during the first decades of the 21st century. In setting up Pragmatic Play, the developer committed to a higher standard of quality in the hope of finding a larger audience in the European and Asian markets. Their latest title, Eye of Cleopatra Slot, is a 40-payline game with an RTP of 96.50% and a maximum win of 4,000x the stake.
Eye of Cleopatra offers several different free spin modes that can award between 6-30 free spins and up to eight randomly positioned wild symbols per spin. The base game also includes a random wild modifier that can seriously improve a winning combination or even turn a losing spin into a winner.

When you think about it, the iGaming world’s obsession with Cleopatra is a bit odd. The ruler of ancient Egypt is definitely one of the most popular characters used in the slot, and it makes us wonder how exactly we got here. Of all the billions of people who have walked the earth since record-keeping began, why Cleopatra? There’s a direct connection between him and Ancient Egyptian slots in general, of course, but still. Anyway, the main queen of developers is back in a slot called Eye of Cleopatra from Pragmatic Play. Before the ‘book’ fanatics reach into their wallets, we have to stop them there. The Eye of Cleopatra does not feature a special symbol that is extended at any point. Instead, what it has is a diffuse wild feature, governed by a wild pattern set, to provide the ultimate thrill.
Eye of Cleopatra is played on a 5 reel, 4 row game panel, which is on the left side of the screen, while the pattern set is on the right. In unused space, Pragmatic Play has squeezed the ancient Egyptian column structure. Yes, it looks Egyptian, as does the soundtrack. Nothing particularly extraordinary, but the sensory load is good enough.
The mathematical models that Eye of Cleopatra runs are just as reliable as the themes from this developer. That’s not a bad thing because Pragmatic Play is quite liberal when it comes to returning to the player figure. The default slot’s RTP is, at least, solid at 96.5%, although Eye of Cleopatra can be found at 95.5% or 94.5% levels, so watch out. Volatility is high, and stakes vary from 20 to 100 credits available on any device.
To start collecting coins, players must land at least three identical symbols on one of the 40 fixed paylines, starting from the far left side. Nine paying symbols, divided into four low payouts and five high payouts have been used. The lowest is royalty J-A, paying 0.25x to 1x your bet for five of a kind, while the highest is snake, cat, bird, Pharaoh and Cleopatra worth 1.25x to 10x your bet for a five-symbol winning line. Wild is one of the most instrumental parts of Eye of Cleopatra, landing in any position to replace anything but the scatter scarab.
Eye of Cleopatra Slot Features
Eye of Cleopatra packs a feature called random wild patterns, which appear intermittently in the base game and in each free spin when triggered.
Random Wild Pattern
On the right side of the screen is the device with a golden inner circle, surrounded by 8 outer positions. The inner circle represents the wild symbol. On any spin, the outer position on the device may glow blue randomly. If this happens when there is a wild symbol on the reels, each symbol adjacent to it is converted to a scatter. For example, if all outward positions on the device turn blue, each adjacent to the wild in the display becomes a scatter. Wins are evaluated after any transformation occurs.
Free Spins
Getting 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the screen activates the free spins feature. Before the round begins, players choose one of the following four options:
- 4 light patterns – 10, 20, or 30 free spins awarded for landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters.
- 6 light patterns – 8, 16 or 24 free spins awarded for landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters.
- 8 light patterns – 6, 12, or 18 free spins awarded for landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters.
A random number of loops and light patterns are given from the options above.
During the free spins, the selected light pattern is active in each spin of the game. Extending the bonus is possible when at least 3 scatters land, thereby re-triggering the same number of free spins as initially awarded.
Big Odds Bet
Big Chance Bet allows users to increase their bet by 25% to double the chances of winning the free spins. With Ante Bet enabled, the RTP remains the same at 96.5%.
Conclusion
As long as the user is not put off by the prospect of returning to Ancient Egypt once again, there are good times to be had in the Eye of Cleopatra. No qualms with the game’s presentation, however stale. Pragmatic Play has its way with pixel placement, and Eye of Cleopatra is as vibrant as most slots in this category.
So Egyptian fans should be disappointed with the look and sound, how about the gameplay? There are mixed impressions, overall positive, although the random wild pattern feature is interesting and can create fun results, it feels like something is missing. It’s as if the feature itself is a bit too one-dimensional to really carry a game. That’s too bad because random wild patterns are all the Eye of Cleopatra really does. Having said that, after we saw him do that a few times in the base game, going through the eight light pattern bonus round, we’re pretty much done.
Perhaps if the Eye of Cleopatra had a secondary feature that complemented the wild pattern, it might have extended the game’s shelf life. What will increase the effect? Throw in the towel and add some sort of Book of Ra-inspired expansion symbol element? Hard to say, and as it stands, the Eye of Cleopatra is capable of generating wins of up to 4,000x the base bet. While the max win potential is relatively low by today’s standards, a high max win frequency can make up for it.
We can only be a little disappointed here because while the random wild pattern feature is reliable, overall the game didn’t live up to our expectations. While what Eye of Cleopatra does is fine, in the end it lacks a truly deadly one-two combo to push her over the edge. However, that mechanic may be more than enough to give Egyptian slots followers something to consider, at least for the time being.
